Tables of 4 to 6

Play Liar's Dice online with friends

Liar's Dice is a game of hidden dice and straight faces. Everyone secretly rolls five dice, then you take turns bidding how many of a number are on the whole table. Raise the bid or call Liar! It is brilliant on a video call because everyone can see your face when you bluff.

How Liar's Dice plays on Game Room

  1. Join from the host's link with just your name.
  2. Game Room seats everyone at tables of four to six. Computer players fill any short table.
  3. Everyone gets five dice. Only you can see yours on your phone.
  4. On your turn, raise the bid: say a count and a face, like three 4s, across every die on the table.
  5. Or, if you don't believe the last bid, call Liar!
  6. You have 25 seconds per turn. If you take too long, Game Room makes a sensible move for you.

The rules

  • Each player starts with five hidden dice.
  • A bid is a count and a face, for example 'four 5s', meaning at least four dice on the whole table show 5.
  • Each new bid must be more dice, or the same number of dice with a higher face.
  • When someone calls Liar!, every die is shown and counted. There are no wild dice.
  • If the bid was true, the caller loses one die. If it was false, the bidder loses one die.
  • The player who lost a die starts the next round, and everyone rolls again.
  • Lose all your dice and you are out. The last player with dice wins.
  • At time up, players are ranked by how long they lasted, then by dice left. 1st at a table of four earns 1,000, down to 250 for 4th.

Tips to win

  • Count what you hold. If you have three 6s, a bid on 6s is safer for you than for anyone else.
  • On average, one die in six shows any given face. Bids far above that are worth challenging.
  • Bluff a little early on. If you only bid what you have, sharp players will read you.
  • Watch faces on the call when people bid. That pause before a big raise says a lot.
