Everyone at once
Online spelling bee game for family night
Spelling Bee reads a word out in a Nigerian voice and you type how it is spelt. No multiple choice, no hiding: either you know it or you don't. It brings back school assembly memories and it is a lovely way for parents and children abroad to play together.
How Spelling Bee plays on Game Room
- Join with the host's link or code on your phone and type your name.
- Turn your volume up. Each word is spoken on your phone.
- Type the spelling into the box and send it before the 30 seconds run out.
- After each word, the correct spelling is shown, often with an example sentence.
- Your points from every word are added up for the round and go onto the leaderboard.
The rules
- You hear the word and type the spelling yourself. There are no options to pick from.
- You have 30 seconds per word.
- Capital letters, extra spaces and accent marks do not count against you.
- Some words accept more than one correct spelling.
- The round is worth up to 1,000 points, split across the words.
- A correct spelling earns between half and all of the word's points, depending on how fast you send it.
- A wrong spelling scores zero.
Tips to win
- Replay the word in your head and break it into syllables before typing.
- Check your answer once before sending. A fast typo scores nothing.
- Watch out for British versus American spellings. If a word allows both, either one is accepted.
- Use earphones if the call is loud, so you catch every sound.
