Play Word Hunt online with friends

Word Hunt gives everyone the same 4 by 4 grid of letters and a ticking clock. Drag or tap through touching letters to make words, and the longer the word, the bigger the points. It is quiet on the call for two minutes, then loud when the best words are shown.

How Word Hunt plays on Game Room

1. Join from the host's link on your phone with just your name.
2. When the round starts, a 4 by 4 grid of letters appears on every phone.
3. Drag your finger, or tap letter by letter, across touching letters to spell a word.
4. Send each word as you find it. Game Room checks it against the grid and the dictionary straight away.
5. Each grid lasts about two and a quarter minutes, and a round can have more than one grid.
6. After each grid, Game Room shows the best words that were hiding in it.

The rules

• Words must be at least 3 letters long.
• Letters must touch: side by side, up and down, or diagonally.
• Each letter square can only be used once in the same word.
• Words must be in the English dictionary Game Room uses.
• Points per word: 3 letters 1, 4 letters 2, 5 letters 4, 6 letters 6, 7 or more 10.
• Your points from every grid are added together.
• The best total in the room earns 1,000 points, and everyone else gets the same share of that, based on their total.

Tips to win

• Look for common endings like -ING, -ER, -ED and -S. They turn one word into several.
• One 7-letter word is worth ten 3-letter words. Spend a few seconds hunting long ones.
• Find a short word, then see if you can extend it before moving on.
• Scan around vowels first. Most words are built around them.
